We'll have a final opportunity to experience the unique ecosystem and culture of the Bijagos archipelago
The 4-day passage to Cabo Verde will test our seamanship and offer a true blue water experience
During our ocean crossing, we'll have the chance to practice traditional navigation techniques
Opportunities to spot various marine life, including whales and dolphins
Upon reaching Cabo Verde, we'll encounter dramatic volcanic scenery, a stark contrast to the Bijagos
This final stage of our West African journey takes us through the captivating Cabo Verde archipelago. Each island we visit has its own distinct character.
We’ll experience the shift from West African to Cabo Verdean culture, influenced by its Portuguese colonial history
From the cultural vibrancy of Mindelo to the otherworldly landscapes of Fogo, from the pristine beaches of Sal to the historical depths of Praia, we’ll uncover the many facets of this very specific island nation.
Our sailing adventures will be complemented by inland explorations. We might hike through the stunning ribeiras (valleys) of Santo Antão, visit traditional grogue (local rum) distilleries on São Nicolau, witness the power of nature at Fogo’s volcano, or dive into the history of the slave trade in Cidade Velha.
Throughout our journey, we’ll be immersed in the warmth of Cabo Verdean culture, known for its music, morabeza (hospitality), and resilience in the face of challenging island life. We’ll have opportunities to interact with local communities, experience traditional festivals (if our timing aligns), and gain insight into the complex history and hopeful future of this young nation.
Join us for this grand finale to our West African sailing expedition. Exhilarating sailing and profound cultural experiences, volcanic wonders and tranquil beaches — this adventure offers a lot to those who are open to it.
We’ll visit Cidade Velha on Santiago, the first European settlement in the tropics
