A photographic journey through Greenland's southeastern coast, navigating complex fjord systems and ice fields. From remote Kulusuk to historic Narsarsuaq, this route traverses increasingly technical waters along one of Earth's most dramatic coastlines.

Gaui H. is an Icelandic photographer and filmmaker based in Denmark, specializing in capturing the raw and moody landscapes of the North. As a DJI Store Nordic ambassador, he blends cutting-edge drone technology with his artistic vision to showcase the rugged beauty of Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. His work is driven by a passion for storytelling, adventure, and the ever-changing light of the Arctic.

Through the DJI partnership, expedition participants will have opportunities to work with professional-grade drone equipment specifically configured for polar conditions. Technical support and flight instruction will be provided throughout the journey, with emphasis on environmentally responsible drone operation in sensitive wilderness areas.

Dmitry Ryzhov

CEO and co-founder of Xploration with background in mathematics and technology. His navigation skills developed through formal certification (RYA Yachtmaster Offshore) and 20,000+ nautical miles of practical experience in challenging waters. Dmitry has skippered 1000+ mile ocean passages in harsh conditions and navigated both Arctic ice fields and wild tropical archipelagos.

HIGHLIGHTS

The waters between settlements feature extensive ice conditions where massive glaciers meet the sea. Navigation requires careful timing with weather and ice movements.

An abandoned settlement site surrounded by dramatic peaks and glaciers. The area offers protected waters and chances to explore former Inuit dwelling places.

A narrow, 100km long channel cutting through the southern tip of Greenland. Steep granite walls rise directly from the water, while glaciers cascade down from the ice cap.

A complex system of fjords and channels around Tasiilaq. The area features active glaciers and traditional hunting grounds while hosting East Greenland's largest settlement.

Seasonal Transition:

Early autumn brings dramatic changes to East Greenland. Darkening nights return, northern lights become visible, and weather patterns shift rapidly. These conditions add both challenge and beauty to the journey.

Historic Connection:

The route passes sites connected to both Inuit history and Norse settlements. From abandoned villages to modern communities, we witness how human habitation adapts to this challenging environment.

Ice Navigation:

Complex ice conditions require constant attention and adaptation. From glacier fronts to drift ice and icebergs, we work with ice charts and weather forecasts to plan each day's progress while maintaining safe distances from ice hazards.

Climate Observation:

Travelling south along Greenland's coast provides direct observation of how climate affects different regions. From heavily glaciated northern waters to the relatively ice-free south, we witness varying impacts of Arctic warming.

Experience Details

One-of-a-kind sailing boat

Totally refitted and equipped for autonomous expeditions for more
than a month, ready to safely accommodate crew of 10 to the world’s most remote waters. Equipped by radar, watermaker, AIS, heating system, Starlink, washing machine.

On board Perola do Mar, we sail with a crew of 10

• a captain,
• a wizard (first mate responsible for comfort and care),
• and 8 crew members joining us for the journey.

Before each voyage, we meet everyone personally through a video call. This helps align expectations and ensures the crew dynamics work well together - because remarkable voyages are shaped by remarkable crew
