A journey with a tricky navigation through countries, cultures and historical places
This stage starts in Normandie, France. We pass by the narrowest part of the English Channel, Calais, and visit Belgium and Dutch ports along the coasts. It’s a very interesting navigation: shallows, fogs, tidal currents, and a very active sea traffic.
Cherbourg is 3 hours by train from Paris (Saint-Lazare). The train runs every 1−2 hours. Then each of the three Paris airports should work good for you.
The boat will stay in one of the marinas in the center of the city. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol [AMS] is one of the busiest in Europe.
Historical Significance:
Culinary Delights:
Dutch Heritage:
We mark the difficulty of this stage as 3 out of 5.
Immerse yourself in the rich history of the region, from the battlefields of World War II to the medieval towns with cobbled streets and bell towers. Explore landmarks like Omaha Beach and delve into the artistic legacy of impressionist painters who frequented the area.
Indulge in the gastronomic delights of French Flanders, sampling fresh seafood, regional specialities like Calvados and Camembert cheese, and Belgian delicacies along the way. Experience the vibrant food culture that thrives in coastal towns and villages.
Venture into the Netherlands, where engineering marvels like the Delta Works coexist with picturesque landscapes and cultural attractions. Explore the vibrant city of The Hague, visit world-class museums, and marvel at the tulip fields of Keukenhof before concluding the journey in the vibrant city of Amsterdam.
That means: be prepared for more challenges than in a standard yacht charter. Waves, wind, rain, night passages, some offshore — all this might happen. But still not too much. Talking about this exact stage, we might encounter some fogs, 1−2 night passages, and at times tricky and intense navigation between the shallows, fishing and commercial vessels, all this in strong tidal currents. But in general, we’ll be protected from the big ocean swell, and no offshore passages on the way.
