Season 4 of Xploration is a time of outstanding journeys, some of which have never been done before in the modern yachting history (literally!).
REGION
It’s all dedicated to West Africa and archipelagos of Bissagos and Cabo Verde. Deserts, volcanoes, grasslands, tropical forests, mangroves… Can you imagine passing by hippos and monkeys under sails? (We can’t imagine so far ourselves, though we know it’s real.)

LOGISTICS GUIDE
And, yes, these countries are visa-free (or stamp a visa upon your arrival).
VACCINATION
Generally, these regions are safe. But some preparation is still needed.
Namely, you’ll need a yellow fever vaccination. Thanks god, it’s one of the most safe and long-lasting vaccines in the world. It is recommended (or sometimes obligatory) to anybody who consider travelling to tropical areas of Africa and South America.
THE BOAT
You probably know her. It’s Perola do Mar, a unique 50+ feet red-hull steel schooner totally refitted from scratch by our team, getting her ready to any waters in the world.

MORE ABOUT THE STAGES
Stage 4.1. Mauritania Expedition (Gran Canaria — Banjul), Dec 02-25
23 days, 1200 nm, buff 4/5, [no public offer]
We start the season with a 3-week expedition to Mauritania. Here we gather a professional team of scientists and journalists. Thus we are not able to invite everybody.
But if you (or some of your friends) is a marine biologist, or ornithologist, or a person who knows Arabic very well, and might consider to join, please let us know!

Stage 4.2. The Gambia River (Banjul — Banjul), Dec 25 — Jan 08
14 days, 300 nm, buff 1/5, €2650
It’s a Big New Year journey inside the African continent up the Great Gambia River. Natural habitats range from beaches to river, mangrove, tropical woodland and savannah, all crammed into a small area. Mud-built villages, ancient baobabs and palm groves, extraordinary wildlife (think hippos, chimps and more than 600 bird species) and hopefully some local festivals – invariably exuberant displays of colour, energy, and hospitality.

Stage 4.3. Gambia & Bissagos (Banjul — Bissau), Jan 08—20
12 days, 350 nm, buff 3/5, €2300
Here is another extraordinary stage. We start from the mouth of Gambia Rive, and after exploring a wildlife there, make a 2-days ocean crossing to Bissagos archipelago.
There is vast region of 88 islands, a home of fiercely independent locals, with, again, high diversity of ecosystems: mangroves with intertidal zones, palm, dry, and semi-dry forests, coastal savanna, and sand banks. And we’ll have a privilege to make our way on a sailing yacht there, with the strong tidal currents and including uncharted territories.

Stages 4.4—4.5. Bissagos archipelago (Bissau — Bissau), Jan 20—27 // Jan 27 — Feb 3
7 days, 170 nm, buff 2/5, €1750
Adding to the description of the previous stage — the square 50х50 nautical miles full of tropical islands is all ours. It should be outstanding!
More people have set foot on the Moon than have visited Guinea-Bissau with a sail boat… Well, that might be an exaggeration, but only just. This country is truly off the beaten track; it doesn’t attempt to sell its beaches to the holidaymakers, lacks for yachting infrastructure, implies tricky navigation because of the strong tides and ever-moving sandbanks… But isn’t exploring the unknown and overcoming your limits where the best adventures come from?
And… don’t forget some small souvenirs for local children, please!

Stage 4.6 Bissagos & Cabo Verde (Bissau — Praia), Feb 3—17
14 days, 700 nm, buff 4/5, €2900 SOLD OUT
Now it’s time to move to the open ocean. This stage is again unique, combining drastically different Bissagos and Cabo Verde islands, and 500-miles offshore passage between them.
Expect to explore both archipelagos, mangroves, volcanoes, and a serious sailing experience!

Stages 4.7—4.8 Cabo Verde (Praia — Mindelo and back), Feb 17—27 // Mar 6—16
10 days, 250 nm, buff 2/5, €2050
Cabo Verde! It’s a marvellous Atlantic archipelago with a very mild weather, friendly locals, and perfect sailing winds.
Picture this: craggy peaks hiding lush green valleys, ideal for epic hikes on the island of Santo Antão. The cultural hub of Mindelo on São Vicente, where the rhythm of music and dance fills the air. The windswept dunes and pristine beaches of Sal and Maio. The surreal volcanic landscapes of Fogo and Brava. All of this, combined with the soulful beats of Cape Verdean music and the warm hospitality of its people, awaits!
Just look at the pictures!

Stage 4.9 Big Atlantic Offshore (Praia — Ponta Delgada), Mar 16 — Apr 02
17 days, 1750 nm, buff 5/5, €1650 SOLD OUT
This is a real offshore ocean crossing from Cabo Verde to Azores, much more various and interesting than the standard Canary-Caribbean one. First week, we’ll make our way North-North-West using the trade winds, and then there’ll be another week to North-North-East, much less predictable and various in terms of the wind.
But not only the ocean comes our way. We also expect to stop by on couple of islands before the long jump and after it.
