Reykjavík → Atlantic Ocean → Angra do Heroísmo, 1600nm
The passage from Iceland to Azores is 1,600 miles across the North Atlantic. It is about the same distance as the transatlantic crossing, but certainly not one bit easier and much more challenging. Our main tack is to starboard, the most important shrouds are to starboard as well, and the sheets are to the port.
You must understand that we’re not playing games here, the crossing will not be easy. You will have to carry night and day watch, cook on rough sea and keep your spirits up high even in heavy weather.
Ready for it? Know this: our general course is 185 degrees. That's almost pure south. Our destination is the island of Terceira, the pearl of the Azores archipelago, and its historic capital of Angra do Heroísmo. It’s historic center of the city is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
