Two offshore passages connecting three different cultures, with both towns and wilderness
This stage is about three different worlds, connected by two offshore passages of 24−36 hours. The first passage is from the fjords of Bergen to the stony Shetland Islands, and the second is from the Shetlands to the famous and beautiful Faroes.

STAGE 5.5
Norway, the Shetlands, and the Faroe Islands all in one go
The boat will stay in the city center. Bergen International Airport [SVG] is the second biggest in Norway. Daily flights from all Europe. It’s easy
Sorvagur [FAE] is the only airport in the Faroes archipelago, and is 30 minutes by bus or taxi from the capital, Torshavn. Most flights arrive from Copenhagen (5 per day), though there other destinations as well (check https://www.atlantic.fo/ for details).
We mark the difficulty of this stage as 3 out of 5.
That means: be prepared for more challenges than in a standard yacht charter. Waves, wind, rain, night passages, some offshore — all this might happen. But still not too much.
Talking about this exact stage, the most challenging should be two offshores of approximately 36 hours each. With favourable winds that we wait for, it should be rather easy and stable, but still it’s an open ocean. But some passages are really short. And a lot of hiking and sightseeing is planned.
Bergen’s Fjords to Shetland’s Shores:
Shetland Exploration to Faroese Adventure:
We start in Bergen, navigating its majestic fjords before undertaking our first offshore passage to the Shetland Islands. This journey introduces us to the stark beauty of Shetland, where the culture shifts noticeably from Norwegian to distinctly Scottish influences.
After exploring Shetland’s unique landscapes and heritage, we embark on another offshore voyage to the Faroe Islands. Here, the terrain changes dramatically, offering us lush green hills and dramatic cliffs that are nature lovers (and photographer’s) dream.
