That means: we don't expect anything really challenging. Some longer passages, some waves. Something with a taste of the real sea, but usually not too hard or too long.

Late August brings increasing hours of darkness and frequent weather changes. All routes are subject to ice conditions, with flexibility being essential for safe navigation.

ROUTE
HIGHLIGHTS
An abandoned WWII American military base in Ikateq. The site combines historical artefacts with stunning Arctic landscapes, surrounded by lakes and tundra vegetation.
Named after the famous Greenlandic-Danish polar explorer, this massive glacier provides spectacular displays of calving ice and fills surrounding fjords with icebergs of all sizes.
A remote settlement at the end of a long fjord, offering dramatic views of surrounding mountains and ice-filled waters. The location provides a perfect base for approaching the Knud Rasmussen glacier.
Bluie East Two
Knud Rasmussen Glacier
Sermiligaaq
Home to East Greenland's largest settlement, where traditional Inuit culture meets modern Greenlandic life. The surrounding waters offer prime opportunities for iceberg photography and whale watching.
Ammassalik Region
One of Greenland's largest and most active outlet glaciers. Its rapid changes provide visual evidence of climate warming while creating an ever-changing landscape of ice.
Helheim Glacier
Ice Navigation:
Working with ice charts becomes crucial as we approach Greenland. The waters around Kulusuk often contain various forms of ice, from massive icebergs to drift ice, requiring constant vigilance and careful route planning.
Ocean Passage:
The Denmark Strait crossing presents challenging navigation through waters known for their weather systems. We work with weather routing while maintaining watch systems during the multi-day passage.
Climate Transition:
Moving from sub-Arctic Iceland to the ice-filled waters of East Greenland provides direct experience of different climate zones. The rapid transition highlights the unique characteristics of Greenland's maritime environment.
Cultural Exchange:
Our journey ends in one of Greenland's most traditional regions. The small communities along this coast maintain strong connections to hunting and fishing traditions while adapting to modern challenges.
